Bec Day Steel the wheel is my favourite album so far as it showcases Shaun at his best. Love the lyrics and arrangements of all the different instruments and his falsetto in stitches is just beautiful. I first met Shaun at the Maldon Folk Festival in a small Victoria town near to Bendigo quite a few years back, you were amazing then and now you just blow my mind. Love your work... Favorite track: Twenty Two.

about

Shaun Kirk Australia

Shaun’s grooves are addictive, and his capacity to connect with his audience also stems from his reflective song writing ability which is heartfelt and seemingly comes from a place beyond his years. His sound drifts between soulful tones and a robust vocal range which has been described as “one of the finest blues voices this country has ever heard” – (Buzz Magazine). ... more

Track Name: Give to the Needy
We live in a world where the rich man feasts,
Boasting and possession non necessity
While there’s a young child starved, malnutritioned and diseased
Now tell me do you think that that’s the way it should be?

Every seed you plant’s gonna grow
Every fire you light’s gonna glow
So stand for what you know is right, too many people just turn their blind eye
Never leave a wounded soldier behind, ignorance is bliss but neglection is a crime

Take from the greedy, and give to the needy
Take from the greedy, and give it to the needy

And our leaders are cheaters
Conspiring to deceive us
Revenue raising
Taking you out to the cleaners
If the best things in life are free, then tell me why is it the poor who do all the suffering?
Money is the root to all evil, but spent the right way it could help a whole lot of people

Every seed you plant’s gonna grow
Every fire you light’s gonna glow
So stand for what you know is right, too many people just turn their blind eye
Never leave a wounded soldier behind, ignorance is bliss but neglection is a crime

Take from the greedy, and give it to the needy
Take from the greedy, and give it to the needy

(Voice Over)
“We all want to help one and other,
Human beings are like that,
But we have lost the way
Greed has poisoned men’s souls,
In this world there’s room for everyone, the good earth is rich,
The way of life is free and beautiful”

So stand for what you know is right, too many people just turn their blind eye
Never leave a wounded soldier behind, ignorance is bliss, but neglection is a crime

Take from the greedy, And give to the needy
Take from the greedy, And give to the needy
Every mouth needs a feeding,
Every lung needs to breathe in
So take from the greedy, and give to the needy
Track Name: Stitches
It’s hard to trust when you’ve been lied
Dishonesty can paralyse
Another victim to the crime,
Scarred by cruelty to be kind

Soon that plane to separation be departing
And I’ll stand at the terminal alone and broken hearted
Once again it had to end before it started

Please don’t leave me lone
Stitches can be sewn
Please don’t leave me lone
Spite to my sole

Segregation from the things we’re obligated
Conveys invitation to be fooled and temptated
Lesions will display until they’re re-conciliated

Soon that plane to separation be departing
And I’ll stand at the terminal alone and broken hearted
Once again it had to end before it started

Please don’t leave me lone
Stitches can be sewn
Please down leave me lone
Spite to my sole

Segregation from the things we’re obligated
Conveys invitation to be fooled and temptated
Lesions will display until they’re re-conciliated

Baby you don’t have to go
Stitching can be sewn
You don’t have to go
Please don’t leave me lone
Spite to my soul
Track Name: Every Dog Will Have Its Day
These cheap hotel rooms are breaking my spine
The day long driving can mess with your mind
A sky scraper I’m attempting to climb
And most who walk on Everest will fall down and die
But every gambler has to throw down the dice
And hope that lady luck is gonna stand by your side

When your heart gets heavy,
Your head gets homely
It can feel like your winding down the path to despair
Blood, sweat and tears,
So many years
The journey’s controlled by the wheel that your steer

I’ve been up north to where the sun do shine
And way down south, where it snows in the summer time
Accustomed to the road now like the clouds to the sky
I could drive it in reverse, with two closed eyes

When your heart gets heavy
Your head gets homely
It can feel like your winding down the path to despair
Blood, sweat and tears
So many years
The journey’s controlled by the wheel that your steer
So step those stones
Jump those cracks
Learn how to crawl before you learn how to stand
Every dog will have its day
I do believe I’m gonna find my place

Sometimes we fly, sometimes we drown
What you put in is what you’re gonna get out
So build that foundation
The thrill you been chasing
Don’t let nobody tell you, your time’s being wasted

Every dog will have its day
Every dog will have its day
I do believe I’m gonna find my place
Track Name: Two Hands On the Wheel (feat. Halfway to Forth)
I won’t spend my time confined, trying just to make ends meet
I’m gonna live while I’m alive, I won’t be bullied by the hierarchy
You’re never gonna know, if you never ever go, and nothing in life comes for free
One opportunity to make things right, I won’t die wondering

Life is short, we don’t got long, nothing can be guaranteed
If you ain’t satisfied and you get it all wrong, you don’t get a warranty
So don’t sign the line
That you don’t agree
I’m gonna pack my bags, hit the road, there’s so much to see

I got, two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel
Two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel

Many believe high currency, evidential of success
But true prosperity, is health and happiness
You don’t gotta do what you don’t wanna do, or be who you don’t wanna be
Teachers will teach, and preachers will preach, but at the end of the day we’re free
Don’t sign the line
That you don’t agree
I’m gonna pack my bags, hit the road, there’s so much to see

I got, two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel
Two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel

Paradise is a state of mind, the wise man said
A home don’t have to be measured by, a solitary house and a bed
It’s the food you’ve been fed
The rules you’ve been read
The journey that you shed

I got, two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel
Two eyes on the road, two hands on the wheel
Two hands on the wheel
Two hands on the wheel

I won’t spend my time confined, trying just to make ends meet
I’m gonna live while I’m alive, I won’t die wondering
Track Name: Find Me A Lady
I’ve been, flying solo now for way too long
My black cat bone and my mojo’s gone
I got dirt on my hands, I been working like a dog
But what good’s a man if he ain’t got love?

There’s a pain in my heart causing strain to my chest
I need a pretty nurse to medicate my loneliness
I’ve got a late night craving,
I need to remediate it
And love’s the only drug that’s gonna rehabilitate it

I got to find me a lady
Find me a lady
Find me a lady
Find me a lady who gonna love me till the cows come home

I’m an independent man, with an independent mind, but when I have to sleep alone
I howl and cry
As the drought gets longer, my weakness gets stronger
I can’t help but ponder how many times I blundered

I got to find me a lady
Find me a lady
Find me a lady
Find me a lady who gonna love me till the cows come home

Butter my bread, pepper my steak,
You’re my next meal, and I can’t wait to taste
I’ve been love deprived
I need to prevail
I don’t know how much more this poor heart can take

I got to find me a lady
Find me a lady
Find me a lady
Find me a lady who gonna love me till the cows come home
Track Name: Blues For My Birthday
BLUES FOR MY BIRTHDAY

Born in March
Nineteen eighty eight
A healthy child, only two weeks late
Nine pound two
Eyes were blue
Destined for disarray, inquiry and confusion

Grew up fine till that one fateful day
Obtained the cruel donation of deceit and betrayal
Now he’ll celebrate the heartache for the rest of his life
You can moderate your future but you can’t change the past

I got the blues for my birthday
Wrapped up in ribbons, seven candles on a cake
The blues for my birthday
And I’m gonna have these blues

Now mumma paid the bills
Whilst daddy gets drunk
He got obligations he choose not to confront
Happy to toy with the hearts of his own blood
Like a voodoo doll that’s been punctured too much
You can contradict and abnegate, conceal your fault and hide your shame
Repudiate and turn your back, but it’s carved in stone and the truth is a fact

The blues for my birthday
Wrapped up in ribbons, seven candles on a cake
The blues for my birthday, and I’m gonna have these blues till I’m pushing up my daisies
Track Name: No One Gonna Love You When You Love Like That
It pains me to know that I’m a seed of you
Similarity will show no matter what I do
You congest my head like hay fever and the flu
Invade my space as if the door man let you through
You got a nerve
You got a nerve to do the things you do

Conniving as a robbery in the middle of the night
Weaker than a man who’ll only strike from behind
Culpable and condemned, Mr popular with no friends
You’re, guilty as sin with your tail between your legs
You keep talking, and I keep walking
Restrain from you but you just keep on stalking
You got a nerve
You got a nerve to do the things you do

I gave you time to deliver
You’d rather occupy your liver man
And you don’t understand
No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that

You’re like catching every red light on a dead empty street
Or a papercut that hurts so much but never ever bleeds
You’re the S in my U C C double E D
A very small branch on this ever growing tree
The first stepping stone, in a long way to go
And I’m the bigger than you’re ever gonna grow
You got a nerve
You got a nerve to do the things you do

No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that
No one gonna love you when you love like that
Track Name: Tranquillity (Extended Version)
It’s a busy world we live these days
It’s easy to exceed the need to run the rat race
In the blinking of an eye, time can pass you by
And all your labour just be money down the drain
You got to, take your time
Ease your mind
Tranquillity

I once met a man who used to work like a slave
Seven days a week without a single lunch break
Never had fun, couldn’t find no time for love
He was six foot down when he turned just twenty eight
You got to, take your time
Ease your mind
Tranquillity

Spend a little time, hanging with the people that you love
Laying on the grass, looking at the clouds up above
There’s nothing wrong with dedication to cessation on occasions
There’s more to life, than labour wealthiest and cultivation

It’s a busy world we live these days
It’s easy to forget the fundamentals keep you sane
Apprehensive for our wealth we tend to pretermit our health
Don’t let that daily grind construct a wall you can’t escape
You got to, take your time
Ease your mind
Tranquillity

Spend a little time, hanging with the people that you love
Laying on the grass, looking at the clouds up above
There’s nothing wrong with dedication to cessation on occasions
There’s more to life, than labour wealthiest and cultivation

Take your time, you must take care of your heart, take your time
Take your time, you must take care of your heart, take your time
Track Name: Twenty Two
The good die young, whilst the bad grow old
Victims convicted, let the criminals roam
How many times must these red rivers flow?
What’s a man got to do to be deprived of parole?

And if justice prevails, then please justify
Why evil was allowed to walk the streets that night
And please explain why you feel no shame
Permitting the guilty to repeat offend
Whilst the innocent, sustain the pain

It takes twenty two times for us to change our minds,
Twenty two too many lives compromised
Twenty two times for our blind eyes to see,
Twenty two too many lives have now been deceived
Twenty two times till we can disclose the truth,
Twenty two too many lives left exposing all the proof
Twenty two times for us to stimulate fate,
Invigorate spate
And abrogate
Sorry but you’re twenty two lives too late

Lay the angels to rest and let the devil run free
Jeopardise non-malignance in the community
Let the white doves fly for the vultures to feed
We let the dangerous smile and the vulnerable grieve

And if justice prevails, then please justify
Why evil was allowed to walk the streets that night
And please explain why you feel no shame
Permitting the guilty to repeat offend
Whilst innocent sustain the pain

It takes twenty two times for us to change our minds,
Twenty two too many lives compromised
Twenty two times for our blind eyes to see,
Twenty two too many lives have now been deceived
Twenty two times till we can disclose the truth,
Twenty two too many lives left exposing all the proof
Twenty two times for us to stimulate fate,
Invigorate spate
And abrogate
Sorry judge but you’re twenty two lives
Twenty two lives
Twenty two lives too late

It takes twenty two times for us to change our minds,
Twenty two too many lives compromised
Twenty two times for our blind eyes to see,
Twenty two too many lives have now been deceived
Twenty two times till we can disclose the truth,
Twenty two too many lives left exposing all the proof
Twenty two times
Twenty two times
Twenty two times
Twenty two too many lives
